It’s the end of an era.

Following nearly 16 years of launching innovative and often-imitated skin-care devices — most famously its Allure Best of Beauty and Readers’ Choice Award-winning electric cleansing brushes — Clarisonic is going out of business. The brand shocked fans when it announced the news on social media on Tuesday, July 14.

“After more than a decade of game-changing innovation and industry-leading technology, the Clarisonic brand will be shutting down as of September 30, 2020,” an Instagram post reads. “We want to thank all of our loyal customers, dermatologists, and retail partners who have helped put this brand on the map. It has been our absolute pleasure to serve you all of these years.”

The post goes on to announce a major sale: “Please take advantage of our LAST CHANCE 50% OFF EVERYTHING promotion at our authorized retailers, to stock up on your favorite Clarisonic products, while supplies last. Thank you for being a loyal Clarisonic customer.”

The comments are full of devastated fans, like one who wrote, “😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔 you were a revolution. I’m so happy for all of your success. You will be missed! I just stocked up on brush heads to make the experience last a little longer 💙 I’ve had mine since 2014 and it still works like it did the first day. Such incredible products.” Another said, “BOO!!! I’ve owned Clarisonic brushes since 2007 and I don’t know how I’ll live without it when I run out of brush heads…”

That fan shares the same concern as many others, who are asking how they’ll be able to get a hold of brush heads once inventory runs out. Luckily, the brand has created a section of its website specifically for closure FAQs, addressing this concern among others. “Please take advantage of promotional offers on our entire product assortment, while supplies last. We recommend you stock up now on your favorite brush heads before they are gone!” the site reads. “If we are sold out on www.clarisonic.com, check our authorized retailer sites to see if inventory is still available.”

Authorized retailers include Sephora, Ulta, Amazon, QVC, Costco, dermatologists’ offices, and spas. However, it appears that many online retailers — including Clarisonic — are already sold out of nearly every brush head.

According to Clarisonic’s website, “This difficult decision was made so that L’Oréal can focus its attention on its other core business offerings.” Allure has reached out to L’Oréal, which acquired the brand in 2011, for more information and will update this post as more details become available.
